Describing a wooden vessel honestly
A phinisi is a hand-built wooden boat, and that has consequences worth stating rather than hiding behind styling photography. Cabin dimensions vary between sisters from the same yard. Sound travels through a timber hull. Generators run at night on multi-day trips because refrigeration and air conditioning need them. We put those facts on the vessel page because guests who know them in advance enjoy the trip, and guests who discover them at 2am do not.
What we verify before publishing
Capacity, cabin configuration and safety equipment counts are recorded from the vessel itself rather than from a brochure. Port clearance and passenger-carrying documentation is handled through the harbourmaster at the operating port, and national park access follows the Komodo National Park authority’s current rules on fees, sites and ranger accompaniment. Each of those carries a check date on the relevant page.
What we do not claim
We publish no crew member’s licence number, sea time or professional rating on this site. Where a trip requires a certified divemaster or a licensed ranger, that person is engaged for the trip; the desk does not claim their qualifications as its own.
