The cabin mix on this vessel is unusually well suited to multi-generational travel, and it is worth understanding why before you compare her against a smaller hull.

All ten cabins are air-conditioned with an en-suite bathroom. Read the table honestly: the five listed configurations add up to 26 berths, while the published maximum is 28 guests — the last two places use extra bedding. If your group is 27 or 28, confirm the sleeping plan with reservations before you commit.

Four of the ten cabins take three guests. That is the number that decides everything: a family of five fits into one Master Suite plus one Junior Suite, or into a single Deluxe Triple plus an adjoining cabin, without anyone sleeping in a lounge or sharing a bathroom with the next family.

The pattern is blunt and useful: every additional family member lowers the per-head cost without moving the invoice, right up to the band boundary at fourteen guests.

Child rates, stated plainly

The operator’s published payment policy says children aged three and above are charged the full rate. On a shared, per-seat product that is a real cost. On a whole-boat charter it changes almost nothing, because the rate you pay is set by the band your headcount falls into — a group of ten adults and a group of six adults with four children both pay USD 14,300 for 3D2N. These are whole-boat prices, not per person. The headline rate the operator advertises — “from USD 8,250 per night” — is the 2D1N charter for a group of 6 to 14. Note how flat the bands are: taking a 3D2N charter from 14 guests to 28 guests adds only USD 1,150 to the total, because you are paying for the vessel and crew, not for seats.

Safety, equipment and the questions to actually ask

The published equipment list covers radio, VHF, Garmin GPS, Garmin radar and a satellite phone, with Jasa Rahardja insurance included in the fare and port clearance handled before departure. Standard snorkelling fins are included; dive tanks, a 1:4 dive guide, weights, hooks, a night-dive torch and GoPro documentation come with the dive inclusion. Masks to a dive specification, BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, booties, open-heel fins and dive computers are excluded.

Two things are worth confirming in writing when you book, because they are stock-dependent rather than published: child-size life jackets and child-size snorkel gear. Ask for both by age and height. Also state dietary requirements at booking — the galley plans provisioning before the boat leaves Labuan Bajo, not on the morning you board.

The route, from a parent’s point of view

The published 3D2N itinerary is built around short hops with long anchor time, which is exactly what works with children. Day one is a one-hour sail to Kelor, a short trek, lunch, a snorkel stop at Manjarite, then the bats at Kalong at sunset. Day two starts at 06:00 on Padar, then Pink Beach, ranger-guided trekking on Komodo, the manta drift, and the sandbar at Taka Makassar. Day three is a morning snorkel at Sebayur and back before lunch.

Only the first leg is published as a fixed figure by operators; the rest are working estimates drawn from real departure and arrival windows. A 47-metre phinisi cruising at 5–10 knots sits at the slower end of these ranges under load, which is why the overnight passage to Padar is run while guests sleep.

Note how few legs exceed 90 minutes. The only long passage — Kalong to Padar, three to four hours — is run overnight while everyone is asleep.

Best for

• Two or three families travelling together — the sweet spot for this hull, at USD 1,021–1,430 per person for 3D2N.
• Three-generation trips where grandparents want a sea-view cabin with a private balcony and children want bunks.
• Families with teenagers who dive — tanks, guide and weights included, with dozens of sites inside the park.
