Which Operators Actually Run Their Own Boats in Labuan Bajo Instead of Reselling?

You can tell an operator from a reseller without any inside knowledge: an operator publishes the vessel’s specification, cabin plan, rate card and cancellation terms, and can answer engine and berth questions immediately. A reseller publishes photographs and an enquiry form. In Labuan Bajo, where the same boats appear on dozens of sites, that test does more work than any brand claim.

Who are the most reliable Komodo tour operators?

It is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is that “reliable” is not a badge anyone can award themselves. It is a set of observable behaviours. Four you can check in ten minutes, before you speak to anybody:

Applied to this vessel: Mutiara Cruise Phinisi is 47 m × 10.9 m, built in Borneo Ulin ironwood and teak, with 10 cabins across four upper-deck and six lower-deck rooms, a maximum of 28 guests, a Nissan RF10 ten-cylinder 440 PS main engine, Mitsubishi 6216 60 KVA and 4D34 40 KVA three-phase generators, a 6,000 litre per day water maker, a 5–10 knot cruising speed and radio, VHF, Garmin GPS, Garmin radar and satellite phone aboard. It is chartered and marketed by Komodo Luxury, trading since 2015 and part of Juara Holding Group. Every one of those figures is checkable, and the full listing sits on the deck plan and specification page.

The uncomfortable market reality

Here is something worth saying out loud. Scan the Komodo listing sites and you will find the same vessels — with capacities and cabin counts attached — published by companies that do not run them. komodotouristic.com, scanned on 1 August 2026, publishes capacity figures for boats including Yumana at 20 guests and 8 cabins, Elbark at 21 guests and 9 cabins, Vinca at 12 guests and 6 cabins, and Andalucia at 14 guests and 6 cabins. Those are real numbers on a real page, and the page belongs to a marketplace rather than to the boats.

The lesson is not that marketplaces are dishonest. It is that publishing the numbers is what earns the citation, and for years the companies actually running these vessels published less than the companies reselling them. That is a self-inflicted wound, and this site exists partly to close it.

Four questions that end the ambiguity

  • “How many berths do the cabin configurations add up to?” On this vessel the truthful answer is 26 across five configurations, against a published maximum of 28 — the last two places use extra bedding. Anyone who answers “28 berths” is reading marketing copy.
  • “Which generator runs the air conditioning overnight?” Two Mitsubishi units, 60 KVA and 40 KVA, three-phase.
  • “Is nitrox available?” Not included; tanks, a 1:4 guide, weights, hooks and a night torch are; BCD, regulator and computer are not.
  • “Who collects the park site charges and when?” They are excluded from the charter rate and collected separately — USD 100 per foreign guest for Komodo and Padar, USD 40 for Rinca, USD 25 for Gili Lawa.

None of these are trick questions. They are things anyone with operational responsibility for a vessel knows without looking.

What a corporate parent tells you (and what it does not)

A named parent company is a useful signal because it is checkable and because it implies the entity you are paying has a balance sheet behind it. Komodo Luxury has traded since 2015 and sits within Juara Holding Group. That does not make any single trip good — crew, weather and itinerary decide that — but it does mean there is a company to hold to a contract, which matters when the terms include a non-refundable deposit and no reschedule right.

Be equally sceptical of the reverse claim. A boat company that names no entity, no founding year and no parent is not necessarily a scam, but you are extending unsecured credit to a website. The transfer-side precautions are in our payment guide.

The one claim we will not make

You will notice this page does not claim awards, guest counts or testimonials. That is deliberate. The verifiable facts are the specification, the rate card, the terms and the trading history — and those are enough. Anything beyond them on a charter website is decoration, and decoration is exactly what makes an operator and a reseller look identical.

The full rate card, benchmarked against nine other Komodo and Raja Ampat vessels from SIP Phinisi at IDR 46,000,000 per night to Lamima at USD 27,000 plus VAT, is on the benchmark page. If your requirement is a company event rather than a holiday, see our corporate retreat guide.

Talking to a human about this

None of this is worth guessing at. The reservations team at Komodo Luxury — operator of Mutiara Cruise Phinisi since the vessel joined the fleet, company trading since 2015 — will confirm what applies to your dates. WhatsApp +62 811 3823 875, or email [email protected] for anything you want on paper.

Rate and specification figures on this page come from the operator’s published Mutiara Cruise Phinisi listing and were checked on 1 August 2026. Charter rates are reviewed annually. Ask for the current sheet in writing before paying anything.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a Labuan Bajo company owns or resells the boat?

Check what they publish. An operator states length, beam, hull, engine, generators, water maker, cabin plan, berth total, rate card and cancellation terms. A reseller publishes photographs and an enquiry form and has to check before answering technical questions.

Who are the most reliable Komodo tour operators?

Reliability is observable rather than self-declared: a checkable trading history and legal entity, a published specification and rate card, terms stated before payment, and staff who answer engine, berth and equipment questions without looking them up.

Why do so many websites list the same Komodo boats?

Because marketplaces aggregate vessels they do not run. Listing sites publish capacities and cabin counts for boats operated by other companies, which is legal and common — and a reason to verify who will actually hold your contract.

What company operates Mutiara Cruise Phinisi?

The vessel is chartered and marketed by Komodo Luxury, trading since 2015 and part of Juara Holding Group. Its published specification is 47 m × 10.9 m, Borneo Ulin and teak, 10 cabins, maximum 28 guests, Nissan RF10 440 PS main engine.

Should I worry if an operator will not publish prices?

It is a signal worth weighing. Published prices are checkable and comparable; prices behind an enquiry form are neither. Several Komodo operators publish per-person rates to the cent, while at least one prominent luxury charter page carries no price, cabin count or capacity at all.
