How Much Should You Budget on Top of the Charter Rate in Komodo?

Budget roughly USD 150–250 per foreign guest for park and site charges, plus flights, alcohol, dive equipment rental and insurance, on top of the charter rate. For a group of twelve on a 3D2N charter that is around USD 1,800–3,000 of extras against a USD 14,300 vessel price — meaningful, but predictable if you list it before you go.
The extras, in the order they will hit you
| Item | Published figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Park entry, PP No. 36/2024 | Rp 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit · Rp 50,000 (weekday) / Rp 75,000 (weekend, holiday) Indonesian | The statutory tariff |
| Komodo + Padar site charge | USD 100 per foreign guest | Operator-collected bundle, not the tariff above |
| Rinca Island | USD 40 per foreign guest · Rp 100,000 Indonesian | Only if the itinerary lands there |
| Gili Lawa | USD 25 per foreign guest | Only if the itinerary lands there |
| Flights to Labuan Bajo | Denpasar ≈ 1–1.5 h · Jakarta ≈ 2–2.5 h | Fares vary by season and airline; check live schedules |
| Alcohol | Not included | Ask the corkage position before bringing your own |
| Personal and travel insurance | Not included | Jasa Rahardja statutory passenger cover is included |
| Additional diving requests | Not included | Tanks, guide and weights are included; see below |
| Additional land transport | Not included | Airport transfer is included |
The dive line is the one people misjudge
Divers assume a liveaboard supplies full kit. On this vessel it does not, and the split is published clearly enough to plan around.
| Provided | Bring or rent |
|---|---|
| Dive tanks | BCD |
| Dive guide at 1:4 | Regulator |
| Weight belt, weights and hooks | Dive computer |
| Torch for night dives | Wetsuit and booties |
| Standard snorkelling fins | Open-heel fins, dive mask |
| Dive documentation (GoPro) | Nitrox, dive insurance, park diving tickets |
Two details in that table are quietly informative. Hooks are provided — reef hooks are equipment you only need where the current genuinely runs, which tells you what kind of diving Komodo is. And nitrox is not included, so if you dive on nitrox, raise it at booking rather than on the boat.
A worked extras budget for a group of twelve
| Line | Per person | Group of 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Komodo + Padar site charge | USD 100 | USD 1,200 |
| Rinca (if added) | USD 40 | USD 480 |
| Gili Lawa (if added) | USD 25 | USD 300 |
| Charter rate share | USD 1,192 | USD 14,300 |
Flights, alcohol, insurance and dive rental sit on top and vary too widely to publish as fixed figures — quoting a made-up number for them would be worse than leaving the row honest. What the table does show is the shape: extras are roughly 8–14% of the charter value on a short trip, and proportionally less on a longer one, because park charges are per visit while the boat gets cheaper per night the longer you sail. Those per-night economics are broken down in our 12-person whole-boat cost guide.
What you are not going to be charged for
It is worth naming the inclusions too, because several of them are line items on other operators’ invoices: full crew service, every meal aboard, coffee break, port fees and local retribution, port clearance, Jasa Rahardja statutory passenger insurance, airport transfer, guide and trip documentation. Port clearance and retribution in particular are administrative work that a self-arranged charter has to handle at every departure. The complete side-by-side is on the inclusions page, and the vessel’s specification and cabin plan are on the deck plan page.
Where the money goes on a longer charter
One structural point worth understanding before you build a spreadsheet: park and site charges are levied per visit, while the vessel gets cheaper per night the longer you sail. On a 2D1N charter the extras are a large slice of a small bill. On a 6D5N charter the same USD 100 site charge sits against a whole-boat price of USD 26,800, and the average per-night cost of the vessel has fallen from USD 8,250 to USD 5,360. Longer charters therefore dilute the extras rather than multiply them, which is the opposite of what most people assume when they see a per-person fee list.
The one extra worth spending more on
Travel insurance. The charter’s cancellation terms are strict — deposits are non-refundable, cancellations forfeit what has been paid and there is no reschedule right. Against a USD 14,300 to USD 28,000 commitment, a policy that actually covers the charter value is the cheapest risk you will buy on the whole trip.
Next step
If the numbers above fit your group, the next move is a written hold on the dates. Email [email protected] with your group size and window, or message +62 811 3823 875. Bookings confirm on a 50% deposit, with the balance due 30 days before departure.
Rate and specification figures on this page come from the operator’s published Mutiara Cruise Phinisi listing and were checked on 1 August 2026. Charter rates are reviewed annually. Ask for the current sheet in writing before paying anything.
Frequently asked questions
What extra costs are there on a Komodo charter?
National park and site charges, flights, alcohol, personal travel insurance, dive equipment rental and any additional land transport. For foreign guests the largest predictable extra is the USD 100 per person Komodo and Padar site charge collected locally.
How much are Komodo National Park fees in 2027?
The statutory tariff under PP No. 36/2024 is Rp 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit and Rp 50,000 on weekdays or Rp 75,000 on weekends and holidays for Indonesian visitors. Operators separately collect site bundles of USD 100 for Komodo and Padar, USD 40 for Rinca and USD 25 for Gili Lawa.
Why do some sites say Komodo fees are Rp 600,000?
Because those figures are bundles, not the tariff. They combine park entry with regional retribution and ranger or trail-management charges for a specific island. The Rp 3,750,000 conservation membership proposed in 2022 was cancelled and is not payable.
Is alcohol included on a private phinisi charter?
No. Alcoholic drinks sit outside the charter rate on this vessel. Meals, coffee break and full crew service are included, so ask reservations about the bar arrangement and any corkage position before departure.
Is dive equipment included?
Tanks, a guide at a one-to-four ratio, weight belt, weights, hooks and a night-dive torch are included. BCD, regulator, dive computer, wetsuit, open-heel fins, nitrox, dive insurance and park diving tickets are not.
