How Much Should You Budget on Top of the Charter Rate in Komodo?

Budget roughly USD 150–250 per foreign guest for park and site charges, plus flights, alcohol, dive equipment rental and insurance, on top of the charter rate. For a group of twelve on a 3D2N charter that is around USD 1,800–3,000 of extras against a USD 14,300 vessel price — meaningful, but predictable if you list it before you go.

The extras, in the order they will hit you

The dive line is the one people misjudge

Divers assume a liveaboard supplies full kit. On this vessel it does not, and the split is published clearly enough to plan around.

Two details in that table are quietly informative. Hooks are provided — reef hooks are equipment you only need where the current genuinely runs, which tells you what kind of diving Komodo is. And nitrox is not included, so if you dive on nitrox, raise it at booking rather than on the boat.

Flights, alcohol, insurance and dive rental sit on top and vary too widely to publish as fixed figures — quoting a made-up number for them would be worse than leaving the row honest. What you are not going to be charged for

It is worth naming the inclusions too, because several of them are line items on other operators’ invoices: full crew service, every meal aboard, coffee break, port fees and local retribution, port clearance, Jasa Rahardja statutory passenger insurance, airport transfer, guide and trip documentation. Port clearance and retribution in particular are administrative work that a self-arranged charter has to handle at every departure. Where the money goes on a longer charter

One structural point worth understanding before you build a spreadsheet: park and site charges are levied per visit, while the vessel gets cheaper per night the longer you sail. On a 2D1N charter the extras are a large slice of a small bill. On a 6D5N charter the same USD 100 site charge sits against a whole-boat price of USD 26,800, and the average per-night cost of the vessel has fallen from USD 8,250 to USD 5,360. Longer charters therefore dilute the extras rather than multiply them, which is the opposite of what most people assume when they see a per-person fee list.

The one extra worth spending more on

Travel insurance. The charter’s cancellation terms are strict — deposits are non-refundable, cancellations forfeit what has been paid and there is no reschedule right. Against a USD 14,300 to USD 28,000 commitment, a policy that actually covers the charter value is the cheapest risk you will buy on the whole trip.

Why do some sites say Komodo fees are Rp 600,000?

Because those figures are bundles, not the tariff. They combine park entry with regional retribution and ranger or trail-management charges for a specific island. The Rp 3,750,000 conservation membership proposed in 2022 was cancelled and is not payable.

Is alcohol included on a private phinisi charter?
