How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Whole Boat in Labuan Bajo for 12 People?

Chartering the whole 47-metre Mutiara Cruise Phinisi for 12 people costs USD 8,250 for 2D1N, USD 14,300 for 3D2N and USD 19,350 for 4D3N — twelve guests fall inside the operator’s 6–14 guest band, its cheapest tier. Divided twelve ways that is USD 688, USD 1,192 and USD 1,613 per person. National park tickets and flights are billed separately.

The published rate card, run through the maths for twelve

Whole-boat pricing confuses people because operators quote the vessel, not the seat. Here is the operator’s published rate card for the 6–14 guest band with the two numbers you actually want: what each of your twelve pays, and what a single night of the boat costs.

Mutiara Cruise Phinisi — whole-boat charter, 6–14 guest band, divided by 12 (rates published by the operator, checked 1 August 2026; per-person and per-night columns derived)
PackageWhole boatPer person (12 guests)Per night, whole boatPer person per night
2D1NUSD 8,250USD 688USD 8,250USD 688
3D2NUSD 14,300USD 1,192USD 7,150USD 596
4D3NUSD 19,350USD 1,613USD 6,450USD 538
5D4NUSD 23,150USD 1,929USD 5,788USD 482
6D5NUSD 26,800USD 2,233USD 5,360USD 447

Read the fourth column downwards. The first night is the most expensive night you will ever buy on this vessel, because it carries the fixed cost of provisioning, port clearance, crew mobilisation and the run out of Labuan Bajo. Every night after that gets cheaper. By the sixth day the boat is costing USD 5,360 a night instead of USD 8,250 — a 35% drop in unit price for exactly the same vessel and crew.

Why twelve is a comfortable number on this boat

Mutiara Cruise Phinisi is built for 28 guests across 10 cabins — four on the upper deck, six below. A group of twelve is using well under half of it. In practice that means six couples in six private en-suite cabins with four cabins spare, or a mix that gives the families with children a triple and still leaves rooms empty.

The spare capacity is worth something concrete: nobody is sharing a bathroom, nobody sleeps in a bunk unless they choose to, and the sun deck and dining saloon that were designed for 28 are being used by twelve. The full deck breakdown sits on the deck plan and capacity page.

What the twelve-person price does not include

The single biggest surprise on any Komodo invoice is park tickets, because there are two different sets of numbers in circulation and most trip pages quote the wrong one.

Komodo National Park entry — official tariff vs what charter guests are billed
LineForeign visitorIndonesian visitor
Park entry, PP No. 36/2024Rp 250,000 per person per visitRp 50,000 weekday · Rp 75,000 weekend and holiday
Komodo + Padar site charge, operator-collectedUSD 100 per personRp 200,000 per 5 guests (Komodo) · Rp 150,000 per 5 guests (Padar)
Rinca IslandUSD 40 per personRp 100,000 per person
Gili LawaUSD 25 per person

For twelve foreign passports visiting Komodo and Padar, that operator-collected line alone is USD 1,200 on top of the charter. It is not a mark-up and it is not the Rp 250,000 tariff either — it is a bundle of park entry, regional retribution and ranger and trail charges for each specific site. The Rp 3,750,000 “conservation membership” floated in 2022 was cancelled and is not payable by anyone.

Also outside the rate: flights and hotels, personal and travel insurance, alcohol, additional land transport and any extra diving requests. A full extras budget, including the dive kit that is not provided, is in our guide to what to budget on top of the charter rate. Everything on the included side — crew, all meals, coffee break, port fees and local retribution, Jasa Rahardja statutory passenger insurance, port clearance, airport transfer, guide and documentation — is set out line by line on the inclusions page.

Is twelve people cheaper on a shared boat? Yes — and by a lot

This is where honest arithmetic beats sales copy. A shared 3D2N seat on a comparable Komodo vessel is publicly advertised at USD 271.57 per person by komodotouristic.com, and phinisitrip.com lists shared 4D3N phinisi seats from IDR 6,000,000–8,350,000. Your twelve people on a private 3D2N are paying USD 1,192 each. That is roughly four times the shared price.

Private charter is not a way to save money per head, and any page telling you otherwise is selling. What twelve people buy is the schedule: your own departure time, your own anchorages, no strangers in the saloon, and the ability to sit at Padar for an extra hour because your group wants to. The break-even arithmetic — including the group size at which the gap actually narrows — is worked through on the private vs shared break-even page.

Twelve people, one payer: how the money actually moves

A charter contract has one signatory, not twelve. The operator confirms on a 50% deposit with the balance due 30 days before departure, and the deposit is non-refundable. Whoever fronts that deposit is carrying the group’s risk, so collect from your eleven friends before you send it, not after. The full deposit, cancellation and rescheduling terms are documented in our guide to paying for a Komodo charter.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a whole boat charter in Labuan Bajo for 12 people?

For Mutiara Cruise Phinisi, twelve guests sit in the 6–14 band: USD 8,250 for 2D1N, USD 14,300 for 3D2N, USD 19,350 for 4D3N, USD 23,150 for 5D4N and USD 26,800 for 6D5N. Divided by twelve that is USD 688 to USD 2,233 per person, before park tickets.

Does the price go up if we add more people later?

Only when you cross a band. The rate card has three bands — 6–14, 15–21 and 22–28 guests. Going from 12 to 14 guests changes nothing. Going from 14 to 15 moves a 3D2N charter from USD 14,300 to USD 14,800, an increase of USD 500 for the whole boat.

What is the minimum number of people for a private charter?

The published rate card starts at 6 guests. A group smaller than six still pays the 6–14 band price, because you are buying the vessel and crew rather than seats. Two people chartering privately pay the same USD 14,300 for 3D2N that twelve would.

Are national park fees included for a group of 12?

No. Park tickets are excluded from every package. For twelve foreign visitors doing Komodo and Padar, the operator-collected site charge is USD 100 per person — USD 1,200 for the group — plus USD 40 each if you also land on Rinca.

Can 12 people each have their own cabin?

Yes, if twelve of you want ten cabins, ten of you get one each and the last two share. With 10 cabins for a group of 12 the usual arrangement is six doubles with four cabins left empty, which is why a group this size is the most comfortable configuration on the boat.

How far ahead should a group of 12 book?

Coordinating twelve diaries is the slow part, not the boat. Peak July–August dates on a VVIP phinisi are typically committed many months out, so fix the window first and hold the vessel with a deposit while individual flights are still being booked.
